My name is Chowan – pronounced Show-wan. I have been a part of the New Market Community since I was 5 years old. My Father, Kevin Brightful was born and raised here. I purchased my first home in Historic New Market, about a year ago. I am a retired D1 Track and Field Athlete. I love to do anything outdoors, hiking, mountain biking, running, etc. I love reading and spending time with my family.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My parents names are Kevin and Glenda Brightful. I have two siblings, Latasia and Isiah. I also have four nieces, Janay, Jazmine, Alyssa and Amaia.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am currently a legal assistant at Family Law Firm. What I love most about what I do is being able to help people.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived in New Market for over 26 years.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
The most interesting person that I have met in our community was Ms. Kathleen Snowden.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Nothing beats a failure, but a try.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I would like to bungee jump sometime soon!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing about our community is the unique character that the buildings bring to the “quiet” small town life.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself married with kids and owning my own business.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
That I like anything true crime.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
It is a tie between Peru – Machu Picchu, and Greece.

Mexican food.
Q: What person, event or experience has made the greatest impact or inspiration in your life?
My Uncle, Tony Brightful has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life.
