I’ve been a New Market resident for nearly 20 years. I’m originally from Pennsylvania and have also lived in North Carolina and California but have definitely put some roots down here. When I’m not spending time with my family, I’m probably cooking, working in the garden, reading, or cooling off in the pool. The beach is my happy place and I love to be outside hiking, mountain biking, or running. About 5 years ago I joined the Town’s Green Team as a volunteer and have enjoyed the opportunity to bring my work experience to help the Town and also meet some interesting people.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband Steve and I have two girls: Kat is 13 and Maia is 10 and they are both as strong-willed as their mother. We also have two cats and a dog.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I work for the nonprofit Center for Watershed Protection. I’ve been there for 22 years which is hard to believe. We help communities protect and restore their streams and waterways through research, technical assistance, and training. I love that I get to work on a variety of projects and that my co-workers are really awesome.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve lived in New Market since 2003.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
That’s a tough one, I’ve been here a while and met a lot of interesting people. I’d say Howard Wilson who owns the winery.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Life is too short to spend it doing something you hate or pretending to be someone you’re not.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Traveling to Italy and maybe looking up some distant relatives there.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I grew up in a big city, so I absolutely love living in a small town where you actually know your neighbors and people look out for each other.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Probably knee-deep in college payments but otherwise still doing the same thing.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Up until I was about 20, my plan was to be an artist – I loved painting landscapes. I was an art major for two years in college but ended up switching to geography.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
The coromandel peninsula in New Zealand.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
I don’t have a favorite month, but Summer is the best because daylight, swimming, and the sound of locusts, and Fall is also best because of crisp air, colorful leaves, and Gaver farm. Favorite holiday is Halloween.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
My Italian grandmom’s homemade pasta, meatballs, and sauce.
Q: What person, event or experience has made the greatest impact or inspiration in your life?
Being a mom.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, love, safe
