My name is Kelly. I am a woman, friend, mom, wife, fitness and yoga coach, personal trainer, business owner, event director, communicator, Rotarian, and follower of Jesus trying to make each day count. I’m passionate about social justice and equity, I believe in kindness and peace, and try live as though each minute is precious, whether that’s looking for a new adventure or just committing to being a lifelong learner. I love being a cheerleader for other humans to help people be their best selves and live in their gifts. I strongly believe in thrive, not survive.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband, Matt, and I have been married 15 years and we have three kids- Mason, 10, Campbell, 8, and Ivy, 8. Yes, we had three kids within 20 months. God’s plan- not ours!
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I currently split my ‘career’ time between two things I love dearly- our Fit2Shine Studio family located on Main Street and the Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County where I get the joy of serving as the Director of Events planning a golf tournament and Tour de Frederick each year. My background is in marketing, first in radio and then in digital, and it serves me well now!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived in New Market for seven years in Lake Linganore and have loved being on Main Street since Nov of 2018 with Fit2Shine Studio.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Oh my goodness. We have SO many great people in this town. I couldn’t possibly name just one! I have particularly loved getting to know the women of New Market as I have witnessed the dedication, passion, and commitment to this town and its future. The events committees and green team, the business owners, and more. They are an inspiration to me and I’m proud to be amongst them.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Oooh. I guess this depends on what it’s about. In general, if I could go back and tell young people something, it would be to LET GO of all of the ‘shoulds.’ When you live in this unrealistic expectation of all the things you SHOULD do, you don’t get to enjoy any of the things you GET to do. Perfectionism kills our ability to be present in this one life we get to live.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A trip to Bali. I’m an island girl at heart and have never had the financial resources or freedom to get to somewhere as amazing as Bali. Someday!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
We come together. People working together, showing up for each other, living life together, present for each other each day.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Probably right here! And maybe more trips to Bali.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m not super interesting. I HAVE had the opportunity to work in a lot of creative spaces. My career was in radio and I had a whirlwind of experiences in that 13 years that most people don’t believe when I tell them. To me, it’s just the radio industry!
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
St. Lucia for my cousin’s wedding.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
NO idea. Definitely May-August are my favorite months. Favorite holiday is probably Christmas, but I HATE the cold, so hate winter in general. Wish Christmas WAS in July. Best single day on the calendar???? Couldn’t possibly choose! They’re all a blessing!
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
My support system- my family, friends, and Fit2Shine Studio family that always pulls together. I’m lucky to get to live this life with these people.
Q: What person, event or experience has made the greatest impact or inspiration in your life?
Person- my mom. Event – Tour de Frederick. Experience- leading people. They say you’re born a leader and I believe it. It is my greatest joy to get the opportunity to help people.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Chaos. Rest. Grateful.
