Hello New Market! I have resided within the Lake Linganore community of New Market for 13 years where I’m gratefully raising an energetic family and pursuing entrepreneurial projects with my amazing wife. My parents and sister still reside in the DC area where I grew up before attending college in Frostburg and Towson University.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My wife Lizzie is genuinely super human in what she successfully orchestrates. We’re parents of four fascinating kids that our entire Lake Linganore block is helping us raise. One is in preschool, grade school, high school, and college. Someone is always laughing or crying, often me.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
We own a nature based preschool named En Haus Academy https://m.facebook.com/Enhausacademy/ a children’s clothing shop named Lucy’s Consignment https://m.facebook.com/people/Lucys-Consignment/100063079699663/ and invest in local real estate throughout New Market. I love building platforms with my wife that cultivate a harmonic community and put kids first. Prior to these projects I spent 17 years in a chaotic, corporate life that’s given me deep gratitude for for my current roles. I worked with large Medical Device and Pharmaceutical companies like 3M and Smith & Nephew selling surgical tools, biological products, and Infection Prevention solutions. I was fortunate to manage and train exceptional sales teams from Virginia to Maine, but slowly concluded people’s health and shareholders are often in grave conflict. Those positions also led to me meeting my amazing wife who is a Nurse Practitioner, then specializing in soft tissue injuries. So pretty standard love story…we met in scrubs peering into traumatic wounds debating the fastest solutions and how patients “really” got injured! She’s since steadily ascended into a strategic business development leadership role. Fancy!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve lived in the Frederick area for 18 years while working all over the country. Now, I gratefully go weeks without leaving our community.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Guido Zullo. I’ve trained jiu-jitsu with my friend and role model Guido at BowerHouse MMA for years. He’s 73 and in better shape than most 25 year olds. I wish everyone had access to learn from a modest stoic who’s quiet example reveal a lifetime of consistent discipline. Life hack: When you put yourself in challenging environments you’ll gain access to the world’s best people.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Advice?!? Adults usually give that, so my offerings generally stem from my own missteps. Don’t spend your life pursuant of wealth and self indulgent luxuries. Honestly review the concrete results of your life’s work and keep pivoting until you believe you’re improving the world. Try, fall, rise, repeat.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Opening a nature based elementary school. Oh, and I’d also like to build a Viking ship. Totally normal stuff.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Kids in my neighborhood canoe to and from school. I remain in awe of how great this community is. It’s a big departure from where I grew up and cherish everyday here. With more thoughtful and patient planning I hope we sustain this oasis for generations to come.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Lizzie and I would like to expand our shared vision of nature based education by opening additional schools and helping others follow suit. Creating an academic atmosphere that fosters self-reliance, reverence for nature, and kindness that become an accessible standard for all kids.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I secretly really like the guy dating my only daughter…for now.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Our modest living room around the holidays when everyone is home.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
October, Thanksgiving, and I’m optimistic tomorrow will be the best day.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
The night sky.
Q: What person, event or experience has made the greatest impact or inspiration in your life?
My wife, if you’ve met her you know.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Elon Musk to determine if he’s human and get the cliff notes on rocket science, electric vehicles, crypto currency, tunneling into earth, and time management. If it’s lunch, a Turkey Rachel at Prospect Pantry would hit the spot.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A phrase that summarizes our home and businesses came from a trip to Japan: 共に育む場 or Tomo ni hagukumu ba…”A place we grow together”.
